I see these anglers every weekend since I am staying in this guest house, for more than 3 months now. By the time I somehow gather myself on lazy weekend mornings, make myself a cup of tea and settle in the balcony, they are already settled on the edge of quay with their fishing rods, a bowl of baits, a bucket and a pint of beer.. they sit there for hours, focusing on fishing line without moving, the only movement was that of fishing rods. I am tempted several times to talk to them but resisted the thought each time, not to disturb their tranquility.
On my way to library, I couldn't stop myself today. Curious but unsure if he would like me being around, I somehow stood by him. He dint pay any attention to me, also to those who'd pass by. What must be going through his mind? I was moved around him, trying to find right place for me, not to disturb him but close enough he wants to break his silence, talk to me for a while. I stood there, pretending to get some other shots, plenty seagulls were around ready to pose. But I was watching him from the corner of my eye. Whilst he ignored me, I did not give up, challenging his ignorance. But he was calm and had inexhaustible patience. I stood there watching his face, his expression for a long time wondering how long would he sit there.
For a long time, nothing happened, I was bored. He is used to this boredom, I was sure. As in something should happen that wil change his mood. One can not be so unconcerned, I was getting involved into useless exercise, challenging his indifferent attitude. I stood there for long time, but he was quiet and composed.
While I was about to give up, nothing was happening anyway, I noticed some movement. He found a catch..! I was excited as he pulled the line, the white fish with Orange spots arose on the surface of water. Excited, I looked at him expecting a smile on his face..he got to be happy now. After all his patience paid him. It dint matter to him a lot, finding a catch after a long wait, must be usual for him. He was as calm as before.
Embarrassed, getting myself into this exercise, I finally walked away. I got some good pictures though..!
i feel that he did not ignored anybody including you. He was in complete concentration . Call it as "samadhi"
ReplyDeleteWith a long practice he must have achieved this state which gives him a " quietness within " independent of anything around.
Good one... write some more.
